Oscar nominees wrap-up

The Shocking:
  • The Dark Knight snubbed for Picture and Director
  • The Reader nominated for Best Picture and Director
  • Winslet only gets one nomination
  • Winslet is nominated for The Reader in Lead, despite campaigning for Supporting.
  • Waltz with Bashir is snubbed for Best Animated Feature

The Surprisingly Good:

  • Wall-E is not nominated for Best Picture
  • Richard Jenkins is an Oscar nominee!
  • Hellboy II is nominated for something (Make-up)!
  • In Bruges for Original Screenplay!
  • Michael Shannon deservedly taking the 5th spot in Best Supporting Actor (rather than Dev Patel)
  • Gran Torino gets nothing; Eastwood misses out on obligatory acting nom.

The Obviously Good:

  • The entire Best Supporting Actor category is pure gold
  • Ben Button leads with 13 nominations
  • Australia is deservedly nominated for costume design

The Bad:

  • Christopher Nolan misses out on a directing nomination
  • The Wrestler not getting in for Original Song
  • Sally Hawkins misses out; who the fuck is Melissa Leo?

The Weird:

  • On Oscar night, I will be barracking against my two favourite actors
