- The Dark Knight snubbed for Picture and Director
- The Reader nominated for Best Picture and Director
- Winslet only gets one nomination
- Winslet is nominated for The Reader in Lead, despite campaigning for Supporting.
- Waltz with Bashir is snubbed for Best Animated Feature
The Surprisingly Good:
- Wall-E is not nominated for Best Picture
- Richard Jenkins is an Oscar nominee!
- Hellboy II is nominated for something (Make-up)!
- In Bruges for Original Screenplay!
- Michael Shannon deservedly taking the 5th spot in Best Supporting Actor (rather than Dev Patel)
- Gran Torino gets nothing; Eastwood misses out on obligatory acting nom.
The Obviously Good:
- The entire Best Supporting Actor category is pure gold
- Ben Button leads with 13 nominations
- Australia is deservedly nominated for costume design
